Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg is on an El Al flight to CDG being deported to Paris after detention aboard aid ship.
Greta Thunberg, the Swedish climate and human rights activist, left Israel on Tuesday, flying to France en route to Sweden on El AL flight #LY323 after being detained by Israeli forces.
The Boeing 787-8 (registration 4X-ERC) departed Tel Aviv Ben Gurion Airport at 10:00 IDT. The flight is expected to land at 13:30 CEST at Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport.
Thunberg was among a group of activists aboard the Madleen aid ship bound for Gaza, which was intercepted by Israel earlier that day.
Israel’s Foreign Ministry shared an update on X, stating, “Greta Thunberg just departed Israel on a flight to Sweden (via France),” accompanied by two photos of her aboard the plane.
The 22-year-old Thunberg, renowned for her climate activism, has consistently avoided air travel, notably sailing to a 2019 climate conference in New York.
Among the detained French nationals is Rima Hassan, a Member of the European Parliament.
Earlier, Israel’s Foreign Ministry had warned that those refusing to sign deportation papers would face judicial proceedings to authorize their removal.
The Gaza-bound aid ship, which was intercepted by Israeli forces Monday morning, was later docked in Ashdod, Israel’s port city, as confirmed by the Israeli Foreign Ministry.
