A flight from Shanghai to Tokyo Narita diverted to Kansai Airport after the Boeing aircraft experienced a cabin depressurization.
On June 30, 2025, a Spring Airlines flight experienced a cabin depressurization while cruising at 37,000 feet en route from Shanghai (PVG) to Tokyo Narita (NRT).
The incident occurred over Japan’s Kyushu island, prompting the crew to initiate a rapid descent to 10,000 feet in approximately 8 minutes.

Oxygen masks were deployed in the cabin for the 191 passengers. The Boeing 737-800 (registration JA06GR) landed safely at Kansai Airport (KIX) 50 minutes later.
Japan’ Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport, and Tourism said the Spring Airlines flight dropped from 11,000 meters (36,000 feet) to just 3,000 metres (9,800 feet) in under 10 minutes after the flight crew received a cabin pressure alert and declared an emergency.
Spring Airlines offered 15,000 yen ($104/€88) per passenger for transportation and accommodation.
The aircraft remains grounded for investigation by Japan’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport, and Tourism to determine the cause of the pressurization failure.
