Right engine of Southwest Boeing 737 shut down during climb out of Fort Lauderdale

Southwest flight WN1575 to Houston was forced to return to Fort Lauderdale right after departure following an engine failure.

A Southwest Boeing 737 performing flight from Fort Lauderdale to Houston was on the initial climb when the pilots declared an emergency.

The Southwest Airlines Boeing 737-800 (registration N8578Q) departed Fort Lauderdale Friday, March 22 2024 at 19:30 EDT on flight WN1575 to Houston.

At only 3,800 ft the crew contacted ATC about an engine failure and requested to immediately return to the airfield.

The pilots informed ATC they needed to shut down the right engine during the climb.

The aircraft maintained 3,000 ft altitude before a safe landing after fast ILS approach to runway 10L at Ft Lauderdale Airport (KFLL), FL.

Flight #WN1575 landed back about only 15 minutes after departure with 184 people aboard and taxied to the gate after a brief inspection.

A replacement Boeing 737-800 (registration N8527Q) performed the flight to Houston with a departure at 00:48 EDT, a delay of about 5 hours and 15 minutes.
