On 20th December, an United Airlines Boeing 767 experienced a series of compressor stalls on engine number 2 while departing Hong Kong.
The Boeing 767-300 with registration N648UA was departing Hong Kong as flight UA2831 bound for Guam on a cargo mission. However, it was forced to return to Hong Kong after it encountered engine problems.
According to the Fire Services Department, thirty-four fire engines, seven ambulances and seven fire boats were put on standby following a report from flight UA2831.
“No smoke or flames were reported at the scene and no casualties were reported in the incident,” the Fire Services Department said.
The cargo aircraft landed safely back in Hong Kong after dumping fuel 50 minutes after departure and the Civil Aviation Department has launched an investigation into the incident. The airport’s operation was not affected by the incident.
