A Jet2 flight bound for Ibiza was forced to make an abrupt U-turn over northern France after declaring an in-flight emergency.
PARIS — Flight LS1473 departed London Stansted Airport (STN) at 08:10 BST for Ibiza Airport (IBZ). Roughly one hour into the flight, while cruising at 35,000 feet over French airspace, the flight crew broadcast a squawk 7700 code—the international signal for a general emergency.
Following the squawk, pilots executed a 180-degree turn to head toward Paris. Flight tracking data showed the aircraft initiating a rapid descent as air traffic controllers prioritized it for an emergency landing at Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG).
The aircraft involved is a 27-year-old Boeing 737-800, registered as G-JZHF.First delivered in 1999, the twin-engine narrow-body airliner has been operating under Jet2’s fleet after previously serving with carriers including Transavia.
The nature of the emergency has not yet been officially confirmed by Jet2 or aviation safety authorities. Emergency ground crews and airport emergency services at Paris Charles de Gaulle were alerted and positioned on standby ahead of the plane’s arrival.
