KUWAIT CITY, Feb 28, 2026 — Kuwait International Airport was targeted by a drone strike today, resulting in material damage. The incident occurred during a morning of unprecedented regional volatility as Iran launched a series of retaliatory strikes across the Persian Gulf.
According to a statement from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), a drone—identified by regional sources as a one-way “suicide” UAV—impacted Terminal 1 (T1).
Emergency protocols were immediately activated. Security forces have since cordoned off the area to conduct forensic assessments and clear debris.
Reports indicate that Kuwait was one of several Gulf nations targeted due to its hosting of U.S. military assets. While the airport strike hit a civilian terminal, the Ali Al-Salem Air Base in Kuwait also reportedly faced incoming fire, with Italian officials confirming “significant damage” to a runway at the facility hosting international coalition forces.
Kuwait Airways has temporarily suspended all flights in and out of the country until further notice. Passengers are advised to monitor official channels as the DGCA works to reorganize operations and ensure the safety of the airspace.
