Qantas Airbus A321XLR is on delivery flight to Sydney with stop in Bangkok.
Qantas Airways is taking delivery of its first Airbus A321XLR, becoming the launch operator for the latest-generation single-aisle aircraft in the Asia-Pacific region. The aircraft was handed over at Airbus’s Finkenwerder facility in Hamburg, Germany.
Demonstrating its extended range capabilities, the A321XLR is making the journey to Sydney with just a single stop for crew rest in Bangkok (you can track it here).
Equipped with Pratt & Whitney GTF engines, Qantas’s A321XLR is configured in a two-class layout, featuring 20 Business Class seats and 177 seats in Economy.
The aircraft will initially be deployed on domestic routes across Australia, with the flexibility to open new services on thinner international routes into Asia in the future.
The Qantas Group has committed to 40 A321XLRs as part of its broader fleet renewal program—28 destined for Qantas and 12 for its low-cost subsidiary Jetstar.
The A321XLR is the latest evolution of the A320neo Family, designed to meet growing demand for longer-range, high-efficiency single-aisle aircraft. It offers an unmatched range of up to 4,700 nautical miles—making it the longest-range narrowbody in commercial service—while delivering a 30% reduction in fuel burn and CO₂ emissions compared to previous-generation competitors.
Airbus has already received over 500 orders for the A321XLR. Like all Airbus aircraft, it is certified to operate with up to 50% Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), with a target of full 100% SAF capability by 2030.
