National Cyber Security Agency confirmed today that the attack had affected “certain computer systems” at Kuala Lumpur Airport.

A cyber attack was detected on March 23 on certain computer systems at Kuala Lumpur Airport.

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on Tuesday revealed that he refused to pay a US$10 million (RM44.39 million) ransom to hackers who attacked MAHB’s digital system.

“A comprehensive investigation was immediately launched to assess the nature and extent of the incident,” the two agencies said in a joint statement, released after Anwar’s revelation.

MAHB managing director Mohd Izani Ghani assured stakeholders that the airport operator was working with its partners to maintain normal flight and passenger processing operations at the airport.

Systems were down for more than 10 hours, affecting flight information displays, check-in counters, and baggage handling.

A comprehensive investigation was immediately launched to assess the nature and extent of the incident. The relevant authorities were also swiftly notified, including the Civil Aviation Authority Malaysia (CAAM).
