Drones have been spotted around Stockholm Arlanda Airport, forcing several flights to divert to Skavsta and Landvetter.
While at least four drones of different sizes were reported, neither the Swedish Civil Aviation Administration decided to close Stockholm Arlanda Airport.
The decision to close Arlanda airport was taken at around two o’clock after midnight, after which at least five planes were forced to divert to other airports.
At 3.30 a.m. Arlanda was able to reopen. The police have opened a preliminary investigation into airport sabotage and violations of the Security Act.
Police spokesman Daniel Wikdahl said: “We suspect this was a deliberate act, but I cannot answer the purpose. Due to the confidentiality of the investigation, we do not want to give information about what kind of drone was seen or by whom.”
The Swedish Armed Forces said they knew about the incident and were in contact with Arlanda.
