A United Airlines flight traveling from Tel Aviv to Newark was forced to divert to Stewart International Airport in New York on Friday due to severe turbulence. The incident resulted in injuries to several passengers.
United Airlines flight UA85, operated by a Boeing 787-10 Dreamliner, with registration N14016, was carrying over 300 passengers and crew members when it encountered rough air while approaching Newark International Airport (EWR).
The severity of the turbulence necessitated a diversion to Stewart International Airport (SWF) in Orange County, New York.
According to New Windsor EMS, the turbulence resulted in injuries to passengers on board. Seven passengers were transported to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries, while another 15 were treated for symptoms like nausea, vomiting, anxiety, and motion sickness at the airport itself.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is currently investigating the incident. United Airlines has confirmed the diversion and reports that the aircraft refueled at Stewart International Airport before continuing on to Newark.
