KABUL – Operations at Kabul International Airport faced significant disruption Wednesday after an Ariana Afghan Airlines Boeing 737-400 veered off the runway during its landing roll.

While the aircraft sustained visible damage during the excursion, officials have confirmed that all passengers and crew members were evacuated safely.

Emergency Evacuation

The incident occurred as the flight was touching down on Kabul’s main runway. For reasons still under investigation, the pilots lost directional control, causing the aging narrow-body jet to skid into the soft ground adjacent to the tarmac.

Following standard emergency protocols, the crew initiated an immediate evacuation.

  • Emergency Slides: Deployed on both sides of the aircraft.
  • Casualties: Airport medical teams reported zero injuries among the passengers.
  • Response: Airport fire and rescue services were on the scene within minutes to secure the site and prevent any potential fire hazards.

Damage and Investigation

Images from the scene show the Boeing 737-400 resting on its belly in the dirt, suggesting a possible landing gear collapse or significant structural strain to the undercarriage. The extent of the internal and engine damage is currently being assessed by technical teams.

Operational Impact

The presence of the disabled aircraft near the runway led to a temporary suspension of flights at Kabul International Airport. Several incoming flights were diverted to regional hubs while ground crews worked to clear the site and inspect the runway for debris.
