Estonia’s internal security service reported on Wednesday morning that a drone from Russian airspace struck a chimney at the Auvere power plant in northeastern Estonia.

TALLINN – The incident, which occurred in close proximity to the Russian border, marks a significant violation of the Baltic nation’s airspace. Despite the impact, officials confirmed that the site remained safe following the strike.

Details of the Incident

According to a formal statement, the drone originated from across the border before targeting the facility.

Strategic Significance of Auvere

The Auvere power plant is a critical component of Estonia’s energy infrastructure. Located near the city of Narva, it sits just kilometers away from the frontier with Russia.

While the extent of the physical damage to the chimney has not yet been fully disclosed, the lack of casualties has provided a brief moment of relief amid heightening regional tensions. Security services and aviation experts are currently analyzing the wreckage to determine the drone’s specific model and intent.

Regional Context

This event follows a series of recent reports regarding airspace violations and GPS jamming incidents across the Baltic region. Estonia, a NATO and EU member, has been vocal about strengthening its eastern border defenses in response to such provocations.
