Flight AA1654 departed from DFW Airport at 5 p.m., headed for Baltimore/Washington International Airport.
Shortly after takeoff, the pilot declared an emergency due to a landing gear issue.
The MD82 made a low-approach fly-by of the airport so officials in the air traffic control tower could perform a visual check of the landing gear. They advised the gear appeared normal, the FAA said.
