MILAN — Severe thunderstorms and adverse weather forced all incoming flights to Milan to divert, as zero-visibility conditions brought air traffic across the region to a sudden standstill.

Dense weather systems brought visibility down to 3 kilometers, paired with a cloud ceiling dropping as low as 1,000 feet. The disruption follows an earlier advisory from Eurocontrol, which warned aviation operators of dangerous cumulonimbus (CB) cloud formations developing late in the afternoon across Northern Italy.

Aircraft approaching the city were forced to enter holding patterns before air traffic control rerouted them to alternate hubs across Italy.

Diverted Flight Status

  • Rome Fiumicino Airport (FCO):
    • Emirates EK91 from Dubai (DXB)
    • Air Cairo SM803 from Cairo (CAI)
  • Turin Airport (TRN):
    • Wizz Air W62067 from Krakow (KRK)
    • Wizz Air W46605 from Palermo (PMO)
    • EasyJet U23508 from Palermo (PMO)
    • EasyJet U27669 from Lisbon (LIS)
    • Ryanair FR3730 from Catania (CTA)

Ground crews and airline staff are working to assist impacted travelers, with bus transfers and rescheduled departures pending weather improvements over Lombardy. Passengers traveling through Milan airports are advised to check flight statuses directly with their airlines.
