Braathens International Airways has filed for bankruptcy after failing to secure financing for its Airbus operations, immediately canceling all charter flights.
The Swedish charter airline filed for bankruptcy at the Stockholm District Court on Friday after unsuccessful attempts to secure the financing necessary to continue operating its Airbus aircraft fleet. The filing also covers Braathens Crew, the airline’s associated crew management company.
The bankruptcy has resulted in the immediate cancellation of charter flights for major Scandinavian tour operators, including Ving and Apollo, two of the region’s largest vacation travel companies. Thousands of travelers with booked package holidays face disruption as the airline’s operations cease with immediate effect.
The sudden nature of the collapse leaves tour operators scrambling to secure replacement aircraft capacity during what remains of the peak travel season, creating significant challenges for passengers with imminent travel plans.
