DUBLIN — A transatlantic Delta Air Lines flight bound for Paris was forced to make an unexpected pit stop in Ireland on Saturday morning following a suspected medical situation on board.
Delta Air Lines flight DL82, operated by an Airbus A350-900 (registration N503DN), departed Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL) at 4:20 p.m. EDT on Friday, August 14. The flight was scheduled for an overnight crossing to Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG).
However, while cruising at 39,000 feet—roughly two hours out from its French destination—the flight crew initiated a sudden change in course. Air Traffic Control vectored the wide-body aircraft to divert toward Dublin Airport (DUB), a standard diversion point for North Atlantic crossings experiencing mid-flight emergencies.
The aircraft touched down safely on Dublin’s Runway 28L 10 hours and 25 minutes after taking off from Atlanta.
Following a three-hour ground stop at Dublin to resolve the situation and refuel the aircraft, Flight DL82 resumed its journey across the English Channel. The Airbus A350 landed at Paris CDG shortly after 10:00 a.m. local time, arriving approximately four hours behind its original schedule.
