A passenger jet flying from Oslo to Northern Norway has been forced to turn back to Oslo after unknown drones were spotted.
Norwegian flight DY338, en route from Oslo to Bardufoss Airport in northern Norway, was compelled to abort its journey and return to the capital after an unknown drone was detected in the area. The incident occurred at approximately 23:30 local time, according to Norwegian Airlines confirmation.
The Bardufoss incident represents a new expansion of the drone crisis beyond major international hubs to regional airports serving Norway’s remote northern communities. Bardufoss Airport serves a strategic location in northern Norway and hosts both civilian and military operations.
Earlier the same evening, a Widerøe flight chose to divert directly to Trondheim after a drone was observed within the prohibited zone of Brønnøysund Airport, indicating coordinated drone activities affecting multiple Norwegian aviation facilities simultaneously.
