A Lufthansa long-haul service bound for Beijing was forced to return to Munich Airport after the flight crew encountered a tech issue issue shortly after departure.

MUNICH — Lufthansa flight LH722, a scheduled 10-hour non-stop flight to Beijing Capital International Airport, pushed back from Terminal 2, Gate H18, and took off from Munich Airport’s Runway 26L. The flight was operated by an Airbus A350-900 registered as D-AIXN.

Shortly after airborne departure, as the aircraft turned east toward its planned long-haul routing, the flight crew halted their ascent at 17,000 feet due to an emerging technical problem involving the aircraft’s cabin pressurization system.

Flight Path & Timeline

  • Departure: Took off from Runway 26L at Munich Airport (MUC).
  • Initial Climb: Halted climb at 17,000 feet after initiating an easterly turn.
  • Holding & Assessment: Crossed into Czech airspace before turning back toward Germany while the flight crew spent roughly two hours managing the pressurization malfunction and performing necessary operational checks.
  • Return & Touchdown: Successfully landed on Munich’s Runway 08R approximately 2 hours and 15 minutes after takeoff.
