The flight EY5 from Abu Dhabi to Washington is currently diverting to Keflavik.
In a sudden change of flight path, Etihad Airways flight EY5, a regularly scheduled service from Abu Dhabi (AUH) to Washington Dulles (IAD), has initiated a diversion to Keflavik International Airport (KEF) in Iceland.
The flight is being operated by a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, a mainstay of Etihad’s long-haul fleet, with the specific airframe carrying the registration A6-BNJ.
While Etihad has yet to release an official statement regarding the cause of this specific diversion, Keflavik is a primary “diversion hub” for transatlantic flights. We are suspecting a diversion due to a medical emergency on board.
