A British Airways flight bound for Texas was forced to make an unscheduled landing in Canada this morning following a diversion over the North Atlantic.

ST. JOHN’S, NL – Flight BA195, a daily service from London Heathrow (LHR) to Houston George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH), touched down at St. John’s International Airport (YYT) in Newfoundland after pivoting away from its planned flight path.

Flight Timeline

The aircraft, a Boeing 787-10 Dreamliner (registration G-ZBLK), followed a standard departure sequence before the incident began:

  • 09:07 BST: Departed Heathrow’s runway 27R.
  • Cruising Phase: The jet reached an initial cruising altitude of 33,000 feet as it began its oceanic crossing.
  • The Diversion: While over the Atlantic, the crew initiated a diversion toward Newfoundland.
  • Arrival: After a brief period of holding near the coast—likely to dump fuel or finalize landing weights—the aircraft is landing safely at YYT on runway 28 (14:02 UTC).
  • Parking: The Boeing aircraft is now parked on remote stand of the airport.

Operations Update

British Airways has confirmed the diversion, though the specific nature of the issue—whether technical or medical—has not yet been disclosed.

The airline’s operations team is currently working to get passengers back en route to Houston. A new departure time from St. John’s has been tentatively scheduled for 12:10 PM local time.
