An United Airlines flight to Cape Town turned around over middle of Atlantic, returning to New York.
United Airlines flight UA1122 departed Newark Airport more than one hour late at 9:55 PM EST instead of 8:35 PM for a 14-hour flight to Cape Town.
The Boeing 787-9 (registered N24988) took off from runway 22R and climbed to 36,000 feet over Atlantic.
More than 3 hours into the flight, the crew decided to turn around over middle of Atlantic to return to New York.
The flight is expected to land almost 7 hours after departure. The airline is confirming to AIRLIVE the aircraft is returning to Newark.
Passengers will resume the journey at around 5:40 AM on Monday, moere than 9 hours behind schedule.
