Air traffic at Dublin Airport is facing significant disruption today forcing flight delays and diversions.
Dublin, August 30 — According to live flight tracking data, several arriving aircraft were placed in holding patterns or rerouted to Shannon and Manchester airports as gusty conditions made landings challenging. Departures also experienced delays as ground operations were slowed to ensure safety.
A spokesperson for Dublin Airport Authority (DAA) confirmed the weather-related issues, citing “strong and persistent crosswinds exceeding safe operating limits for certain aircraft types.” No safety incidents have been reported, and crews continue to coordinate closely with air traffic control to manage the flow of flights.
Eurocontrol is warning arrivals are currently being regulated due to strong winds, high delays are expected during the day.
Passengers are being advised to check with their airlines for the latest updates and allow extra time for potential delays. Airlines including Aer Lingus, Ryanair, and other European carriers have warned that schedules may continue to be affected until conditions improve.
Meteorological reports from Ireland’s Met Éireann indicate that winds in excess of 40 knots have been recorded in the Dublin area, with conditions expected to ease later this evening. Current crosswind is gusting up to 34 kt.
The incident highlights how crosswind conditions — while relatively common in Ireland’s variable weather — can still cause significant disruption when speeds exceed aircraft operating limits.
