Barranquilla, Colombia – An emergency landing at Ernesto Cortissoz International Airport (BAQ) in Barranquilla, Colombia, resulted in the collapse of the landing gear on an Aerosucre Boeing 727-227 cargo aircraft.

The incident occurred after the aircraft was forced to make an emergency return to the airport. Upon landing, the landing gear failed, though specific details regarding the cause of the initial emergency and the gear failure are pending investigation.

Emergency Response and Crew Safety

The airport’s emergency services were quick to respond to the situation:

  • The Aeronautical Fire teams and the airport’s ground personnel acted immediately and in a coordinated fashion, confirming the condition of the failure during the landing.
  • Crucially, no injuries were reported among the crew members on board the cargo plane.

Airport Operations Temporarily Halted

The Colombian Civil Aviation Authority (Aerocivil) confirmed that the incident has necessitated a temporary closure of the facility to ensure safety and assess damage.

“The Ernesto Cortissoz International Airport remains temporarily closed while work is carried out to review possible damage to the infrastructure, including an affected runway light,” Aerocivil stated.

The airport will remain closed as authorities inspect the runway for structural damage and repair the affected lighting system before resuming normal operations.
