A flight from London to Dubai was forced to return to Europe due to ongoing U.S. air strikes on Iran.
British Airways flight BA109 departed runway 09R of London Heathrow Airport Saturday, June 21 2025 at 21:54 BST to Dubai.
The Boeing 787-10 (registration G-ZBLB) climbed to 35,000 feet over France then flew over Italy, Greece, Mediterranean Sea, Egypt then entered Saudi Arabia’s airspace at 01:20 UTC.
At this time, the U.S. operations on Iran had begun involving tankers from Prince Sultan Air Base in Saudi Arabia and B-2 Long-Range Stealth Bombers which took off from Whiteman Air Force Base in Missouri.
The aircraft climbed to 38,000 feet and made a U-turn over Madinah then was vectored toward Egypt before returning to Europe.
Due to low fuel, the aircraft could not reach London and diverted to Zurich. The airline is confirming the flight has been cancelled.
The plane is expected to return to London Heathrow as it is scheduled to perform flight BA203 to Boston with a departure at 17:35 BST.
