VIDEO See how Boeing 737 factory will now run on 100% renewable energy

Boeing’s Renton facility is now powered 100 percent by renewable energy. Through an agreement with Puget Sound Energy, the 737 manufacturing site now receives power from hydroelectricity coupled with renewable energy credits from wind energy purchased from the local utility.
The timing of the energy agreement comes at an opportune time as colder, darker December days push the Renton site to its peak annual energy use, while the 737 is being produced at a record rate. This allows production efficiency to be paired with environmental efficiency.
In a Tuesday ceremony marking the milestone, Beverly Wyse, vice president and general manager of the 737 Program, noted the importance of investing not only in Boeing’s product development, but in the local environment as well.
“Boeing is proud to expand our investment in clean, renewable energy,” Wyse said. “Investing in local wind energy through Puget Sound Energy demonstrates our commitment to our local community and the environment, and mirrors the environmental performance of our new fuel efficient 737MAX aircraft.”
Tuesday’s event included local political leaders and representatives from Puget Sound Energy, including Jason Teller, vice president of Customer Solutions.
