American Airlines has named its first international route for the Airbus A321XLR.
A new seasonal link between New York JFK and Edinburgh, Scotland, will be launched in March 2026.
The carrier took delivery of its first A321XLR on 22 October, with the aircraft ferrying in from Airbus’s Hamburg assembly site. The jet (registered N303NY) features 20 Flagship Suite seats, 12 Premium Economy seats and 123 seats in the main cabin.
Before heading across the Atlantic, the aircraft will debut on domestic service. Its first commercial flight is set for 13 December on the New York JFK–Los Angeles route.
American has not yet disclosed which additional markets the XLR will serve, but the type’s extended range is expected to unlock thinner transatlantic city pairs when more units arrive.
