Qatar Airways signed a huge order with U.S. aircraft manufacturer Boeing on Wednesday.
Trump announced the deal was valued at over $200 billion and included the purchase of 160 jets. He and Qatar’s Emir, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, were present at the signing ceremony in Doha.
The deal for the 787 Dreamliner and 777X aircraft powered by GE engines is Boeing’s “largest-ever widebody order and largest-ever 787 order,” according to the White House.
The agreement came during Trump’s second stop on a tour of Gulf countries, following a series of deals he secured in Saudi Arabia the previous day.
According to Trump, Boeing CEO Kelly Ortberg described the agreement as “the largest order of jets in Boeing’s history.” Trump added, “It’s over $200 billion—but 160 in terms of jets—that’s fantastic. So that’s a record. Kelly, congratulations to Boeing. Get those planes out there.”
Details of the aircraft types included in the order have not been disclosed, nor is it clear whether the agreement consists of firm orders, which require deposits and contractual commitments, or options.
While Boeing no longer publishes official list prices, the most recent valuation of its high-end 777X suggests that a 160-jet order could be worth around $70 billion at catalogue prices.
The deal could be a boon for Boeing, which has not posted a profit since 2018.
