An FAA equipment malfunction caused a significant disruption at Newark Liberty Airport shutting down all flight operations.
Hundreds of flights were delayed or diverted starting yesterday afternoon due to an FAA equipment malfunction.
Although the equipment issues were resolved relatively quickly the unexplained staffing problems at Philadelphia TRACON, which controls the Newark flow, prevented a full recovery.
The situation started with an issue with the telecommunications and radar equipment at Philadelphia Terminal Radar Approach Control, which handles aircraft movement in and out of Newark Airport.
But once that problem was resolved, staffing issues in Philadelphia added to the situation.
