A Qantas Airbus A330 aircraft damaged the runway surface at Perth International Airport on Sunday, September 15, 2024. The A330 blew off the runway surface during departure.
The A330-200 with registration VH-EBD was operating flight QF71 from Perth to Singapore. The A330 took off safely.
However, the incident caused significant disruption to airport operations. Runway 03 was immediately closed for repairs, leading to the diversion of an incoming Boeing 747 aircraft.
The Silkway Airlines Boeing 747 was forced to divert over 2,100 kilometers to Adelaide, the nearest alternative airport with the capacity to handle the aircraft.
The damaged section of Runway 03 is undergoing repairs, and it remains unclear when the runway will be fully operational again.
According to local reports, the damaged track has recently been renovated and its surface changed.
