France and Sweden send anti-drone support amid rising concerns over airspace safety for European summit.
Copenhagen, September 29 — Denmark has imposed a temporary ban on all civilian drone flights ahead of a major European Union summit in the capital this week, Transport Minister Thomas Danielsen confirmed.
The ministry said the ban is intended to simplify police security efforts, warning that “foreign drones creating uncertainty and disruption” could not be tolerated during the high-level gathering. The restriction will remain in place until October 3, with violations punishable by fines or up to two years in prison.
The move follows a series of unexplained drone sightings over Denmark in recent weeks, including reports near military facilities as recently as Saturday. Similar incidents forced Copenhagen and Oslo airports to suspend operations on September 22, with Aalborg and Billund airports also affected in the days that followed.
Denmark, which currently holds the rotating presidency of the Council of the EU, has also received offers of support from allies. Sweden pledged to provide military anti-drone systems and “powerful radar,” while France will contribute a specialist helicopter and 35 experts to assist Danish authorities.
