NAKHCHIVAN, Azerbaijan — A series of kamikaze drones launched from Iranian territory struck Nakhchivan International Airport on Thursday, marking a significant escalation and a spillover of the ongoing conflict involving Iran, Israel, and the United States.
The airport, a vital transport hub for the Azerbaijani exclave, is located approximately 10 kilometers (6 miles) from the Iranian border.
According to sources close to the Azerbaijani government, the attack involved at least one Shahed-136 kamikaze drone that directly impacted the terminal building, causing a fire and significant structural damage.
Azerbaijani officials confirmed that at least two civilians were injured in the strike. Beyond the airport terminal, a second drone reportedly crashed near a school in the village of Shekarabad.
