Sint Maarten Princess Juliana International Airport is closed until further notice following incident on runway.
WestJet Airlines Flight WS2276 from Toronto suffered an incident while landing on runway 10 at SXM Airport after 4 hours and 46 minutes of flight time.
The right main landing gear of the Boeing 737-800 (registration C-GWSR) collapsed. Emergency services responded immediately, deploying foam as a precaution. The aircraft’s slides were activated, and all guests and crew safely evacuated and were transported to the terminal.
The aerodrome has been closed until further notice. JetBlue flight B6887 from New York JFK was forced to divert to San Juan.
In a statement the airline has said, “WestJet flight 2276, operating from Toronto, experienced a hard landing upon arrival at Princess Juliana International Airport (SXM) at 17:29 UTC today.”
