The Boeing 767-322ER (registration N661UA) flew during 6 hours before returning to Newark due to a technical issue. The 32-year-old aircraft is still under maintenance.
Few hours later, at 21:02 EDT, United flight UA146 from Newark to Cape Town. The Boeing 787-9 (registration N23983) climbed to 33,000 feet and turned around.
The captain announced they had lost part of a wing and was returning to Newark according to The Aviation Herald.
About 2 hours after departure, the Dreamliner returned to Newark Airport for a hight speed landing on runway 22R.
