An American Airlines flight from San Francisco to Dallas-Fort Worth suffered an engine issue on departure.

Smoke was emitted from left engine of an Airbus A321-200 (registration N159AN) when flight AA1175 departed from San Francisco Airport on May 9th 2025.

The crew was either unaware or took the decision to climb to 35,000 feet then to continue to Dallas-Fort Worth where the flight landed 2 hours and 57 minutes later.

However an inspection found debris on the runway 1R according to The Aviation Herald.

The FAA reported a left-engine thrust reverse liner was recovered on the runway. The plane was took out of service.

The aircraft is still under maintenance at Dallas-Fort Worth. The airline is scheduling the return in operations on May 13th.
