This morning’s cluster of squawk 7700 declarations marks the latest escalation in an unprecedented series of coordinated security threats disrupting European airspace.

Flights Affected

  • TAROM Flight RO226 (reg YR-BGL): En route from Prague to Bucharest carrying 102 passengers and six crew members, the Boeing 737-800 declared an emergency following a bomb threat targeted at the route. Security protocols were immediately initiated.
  • Wizz Air Flight W46136 (reg HA-LTH): Operating from Prague to Rome, the aircraft issued a squawk 7700 emergency signal before safely executing a security diversion into Venice.
  • TAP Air Portugal Flight TP432 (reg CS-TJN): Flying from Lisbon to Paris Orly (ORY), the flight joined the rapid succession of emergency declarations, triggering protocol checks upon entering regional sector control.

Context of the Security Wave

This coordinated wave is the third major disruption to hit commercial aviation across Europe this week. Dozens of flights operated by carriers including Aer Lingus, LOT Polish Airlines, SAS, Wizz Air, and Ryanair have faced similar hoaxes or security alerts, resulting in forced diversions, military jet escorts, and temporary ground stops.

All aircraft involved in this morning’s incidents followed standard aviation safety protocols, diverting or landing under emergency status to allow bomb disposal squads and local law enforcement to inspect the planes.
