United Airlines flight UA2100 departed Newark Airport at 08:52 EST today for a 3-hour flight to Chicago.
The Airbus A321neo (registration N14504) took of from runway 22R and climbed to 34,000 feet and flew during 30 minutes before turning around over Pennsylvania.
Pilots declared an emergency (squawk 7700) and descended to 10,000 feet due to a possible depressurization issue.
The aircraft safely landed back at Newark Airport on runway 22L then taxied to the gate.
The airline is confirming the flight returned to the origin airport. The maintenance team needs to evaluate a technical issue on the plane before scheduling a new departure.
