A British Airways fight from San Francisco to London Heathrow has declared an emergency.

The flight BA286 departed SFO Airport Monday, May 26 2025 at 19:33 PDT for a 10-hour flight to London.

The crew of the Airbus A380, with registration G-XLEG, has squawked 7700 (general emergency) after crossing over Atlantic while cruising at 41,000 feet over Scotland.

Pilots are requiring priority landing at London Heathrow Airport due to a medical emergency on board.

The flight BA286 has landed on runway 27L.

As of May 2025, British Airways operates a fleet of 12 Airbus A380 aircraft, with 10 currently active in service.

During the summer 2025 schedule, British Airways’ A380s are scheduled to serve the following destinations:

  • Boston: Daily service during peak summer months.
  • Johannesburg: Double-daily flights from June 2025.
  • Los Angeles: One daily A380 flight, supplemented by two Boeing 777 services.
  • Miami: Daily A380 service.
  • San Francisco: One daily A380 flight, supplemented by a Boeing 777 service.
  • Singapore: Daily A380 flights until May 31, 2025.
  • Washington Dulles: One of BA’s three daily flights operated by an A380.
