Traffic at Nairobi Airport was suspended following an incident involving Singapore Airlines flight SQ7343 from Amsterdam.

AMS as it caught engine fire on ground run.

This morning at about 08:10 local time, a Singapore airline cargo aircraft B747-400 aborted take-off due to a technical problem at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, Nairobi.

As a result, 11 out of 16 rear tyres exploded.

  • UPDATE Singapore Airlines Cargo Flight #SQ7343 is now being moved off the runway to clear the way for larger aircrafts to resume operations.
  • UPDATE Technical team working to replace flat tyres, cargo offloaded.

Medium planes were taking off on Runway 24 with displaced threshold at Taxiway Echo.

The process to remove the aircraft from the runway required evacuation of 100 tonnes of cargo and replacement of the damaged tyre before the aircraft can be towed off the runaway.

A technical team drawn from Kenya Airports Authority (KAA), Kenya Airways, Kenya Civil Aviation Authority (KCAA) and other stakeholders have been working hard to remove the aircraft to allow for resumption of normal operations.
