The flight #P57436 from Medellin to Punta Cana suffered an engine issue on October 16.
The 737-800 took off from Medellin when the left engine began to bang.
The crew decided to continue and took off and climbed to 13,000 feet. however Medellin Airport is at about 7,000 feet.
The pilots returned to approach runway 1 about 25 minutes after departure.
The incident can be caused by ingestion of an object or by failure of the propulsion system.
Wingo has issued a statement: “We have activated the necessary protocols for these types of incidents. Our pilots, who are fully trained to handle circumstances like this. At no time was the safety of travelers or crew at risk.”
Colombia’s civil aviation authority, Aero Civil, said it had opened an investigation to assess the incident.
