The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has released the underwater photos of the Transair Boeing 737-200C (N810TA) that ditched 2 miles off the coast while returning to Honolulu Airport shortly after take-off.
The cargo jet is now resting hundreds of feet underwater, making it difficult for divers to get to the site to recover the flight data and cockpit voice recorders for further investigation. One of the engines and the forward fuselage broke away during the landing.
The Federal Aviation Administration stated that the pilots of Flight 810 were attempting to return to Honolulu, having reported engine trouble. However, the pilots were forced to land the cargo aircraft in the water earlier this month.
The U.S. Coast Guard rescued both the pilots and this incident is being investigated by the FAA and National Transportation Safety Board.
