Emirates has announced that it will be reactivating more Airbus A380s to meet the surge in demand for air travel this summer. The Dubai-based carrier will be deploying 30 A380s to 15 cities next month, almost doubling the number of A380s flying.
However, after deploying 30 of its flagship A380s, roughly 75% of its A380 fleet will remain parked at Dubai World Central Airport, where they have been parked since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Emirates President Sir Tim Clark stated that the Middle-East giant is currently flying only 15 to 20 A380s every week. Emirates’ A380s will serve the following destinations in July:
- North America: Los Angeles, New York JFK, Washington D.C. and Toronto
- Europe: London Heathrow, Manchester, Munich, Frankfurt, Moscow, Paris and Vienna
- Middle East and Asia: Amman, Cairo, Jeddah and Guanzhou
Emirates Chairman and CEO Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum said that the Dubai-based carrier is working to rebuild its pre-pandemic network. In a statement, Sheikh Al Maktoum said:
“We are working hard to rebuild our network and secure access to more destinations in partnership with various authorities and stakeholders.
“We are encouraged by the latest developments as many countries have begun to turn the page and reopen for international visitors, and we are seeing strong signs of pent-up demand wherever restrictions have eased.”
Emirates said that it would be operating close to 90% of its pre-pandemic routes. It will be operating 880 weekly flights to 124 destinations in July, up from 115 destinations currently being served.
