PARIS — A British Airways flight bound for Geneva was forced to make an unexpected diversion to Paris on Thursday night after heavy rainstorms brought severe visibility issues to Switzerland.

Flight BA756, operated by an Airbus A320 with registration G-EUUD, departed London Heathrow’s runway 27L on Thursday, August 20, 2026. Heading south, the aircraft climbed smoothly to its cruising altitude of 33,000 feet over the English Channel before beginning its scheduled approach over eastern France toward Geneva Airport (GVA).

However, as the aircraft approached its destination, flight crews encountered widespread severe weather. Torrential downpours across Geneva and the broader Swiss region drastically degraded visibility, making a safe landing impossible.

The pilots entered a holding pattern at 23,000 feet, circling for several minutes while assessing the weather reports. With forecasts indicating that visibility conditions were unlikely to improve in the immediate future, the flight crew made the call to divert northwest to Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG).

The aircraft touched down safely at Paris CDG at 11:25 PM local time. Passengers were provided assistance overnight in Paris while the aircraft remained on the ground.

The flight is scheduled to complete its journey from Paris to Geneva today, Friday, departing CDG at 13:15 CEST.
