Air travel is not what it used to be just a few decades ago. Flying in the 60s and 70s was reserved for the privileged few who could afford this luxury. With low-cost airlines appearing most of the charm was lost. It is not so glamorous to be a stewardess anymore, not even being a pilot so much and practically everybody can afford to travel by plane.

So what if we bring back some of the lost charm and feeling of exclusivity? AirJet Designs, a French aeroplane interior design company came up with a casino onboard concept fitted to a Boeing 777 body. We are discussing the concept of a flying casino with Hungarian online gaming expert Szilvia Sultés. Szilvia’s passion is iGaming but she is also an avid traveller and you can read more about her here.

Is it legal to gamble on a flight?

We are used to the fact that different countries have different legislation on gambling. So, what happens in the sky? At the moment, the flying casino is not available on commercial flights, but it is only for private use. If and when commercial carriers try to offer casino services to travellers they will have to lobby for the right to do so.

If you want to spend your boring flying hours with a little bit of excitement and a chance to win some real money, you can do so from your seat by connecting to your favourite online casino. That is, of course, if the plane offers wifi and you have a VPN installed on your phone or laptop. If you are from Hungary, you can visit for example EnergyWin casino, which is a good all-around casino option for Hungarian players.

The concept of gambling in the international territory is not unheard of. Think of all the cruise ships that offer casinos onboard. However, the casinos can only be operational when they are on international waters. Flying is more complicated than that as – depending on your destination – you might not fly at all over international land.

If airlines are not allowed to serve alcohol when flying over Saudi Arabia, it is hard to imagine that gambling would ever be allowed. That said, the idea seems much more possible if the flight is within the EU, say between Hungary and France. At the moment, it is all speculations though and we will have to wait and see what the future holds.

Boeing with casino design

The Boeing 777 is a large plane, designed for long-haul travel. It is designed to carry lots of passengers so the social experience of gambling would be provided. To use its full potential, it would be ideal for long-distance flight, for example between Europe and the West coast of the US or from the Middle East to Australia or New Zealand. Flying on this aircraft is for sure not going to be a cheap experience but this might be the first step to bring back the luxury feeling commercial air travel used to come with.

The plane features economy, business and first-class sections and the casino is situated in the front of the plane. This casino in the skies gives travellers the feeling of zen with its amazing interior using natural materials such as white stone, bamboo, and white leather. The armchairs and sofas form semi-circles and they look very comfy indeed. An interactive bar and ambient lighting will set your mood and time will literally fly. You will find a blackjack table at the end of the casino, facing the bar. The whole plane would fit very well into a James Bond movie and we already imagine the 007 sipping his Martini at the bar – shaken, not stirred!

Conclusion

This custom Boeing 777 is not available commercially (yet) but it might be an alternative way of luxury air travel in the future. We are yet to see how the gambling legislation is going to form in this regard but until then, just get a VPN and log into your favourite online casino for an exciting gameplay that will make the journey pass much quicker.
