An Airbus A330 from New York JFK to Tel Aviv diverted to Ireland after pilots declared an emergency.

DUBLIN, Ireland – A Delta Air Lines flight traveling from New York to Tel Aviv was forced to make an emergency “heavyweight” landing at Dublin Airport in the early hours of the morning following a medical crisis on board.

Flight Details and Emergency Declaration

Delta flight DL234, operated by a two-year-old Airbus A330-900 (registration N430DX), departed New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) at 15:28 EST on Monday. The aircraft was approximately four hours into its ten-hour journey to Israel, cruising at 36,000 feet between the coast of Ireland and England, when the flight crew transmitted a Squawk 7700—the international signal for a general emergency.

The pilots requested an immediate diversion to Dublin, citing a serious medical emergency involving one of the 174 souls on board.

The “Heavyweight” Landing

Because the aircraft was still early in its flight path, it was carrying a significant fuel load intended for the long-haul crossing to the Middle East. This resulted in a heavyweight landing, a procedure where an aircraft lands while exceeding its maximum structural landing weight.

Current Status

The aircraft touched down safely in the middle of the night at Dublin Airport. The affected passenger was met by paramedics and transferred to a local hospital; their current condition has not been released.

The flight resumed after takeoff at 05:03 GMT from DUB airport. Landing is estimated at 11:55 IST in Tel Aviv.
