On 8th July, a nightmarish scene unfolded at Vancouver International Airport (YVR) after a cargo box broke open, releasing a swarm of snakes onto the tarmac.
Details surrounding the incident are scarce, but a video circulating on social media shows the chaos unfolding. The footage depicts a seemingly normal cargo operation by an aircraft, but things take a turn for the unexpected when the box gives way.
A large number of snakes erupt from the container, slithering freely on the tarmac with more escaping by the second.
The video doesn’t reveal how the box containing the snakes broke, nor does it shed light on whether the ground handlers were aware of the cargo they were handling. Given the unconventional packaging, it’s safe to assume the snakes were a surprise to the handlers.
This incident raises several questions. How did such a large number of snakes end up being transported in what appears to be an unsuitable container? Were proper safety protocols followed during transportation?
