On 10th July, one passenger and one flight attendant were injured due to the severe clear air turbulence on Air China’s flight to Beijing.
The Airbus A330-343 with registration B-5916 was operating flight CA1524 from Shanghai to Beijing with 206 passengers and 12 crew members on board.
However, about 30 minutes before landing in Beijing, Flight 1524 experienced extreme turbulence. The turbulence caused the aircraft to drop suddenly, resulting in injuries to one passenger and one crew member.
The passenger suffered a head injury, while the crew member suffered bruised ribs. Both were treated at a nearby hospital in Beijing and discharged. Footage shared on the internet shows the exact moment the flight encountered the turbulence

“The first half of the flight was relatively smooth. In the last 30–40 minutes before landing, the aircraft suddenly plunged, and everyone was frightened and hurried to sit properly,” said Xing Lida who was on board the flight.
“Within a very short interval of time, there was another violent plunge, throwing the flight attendants who were helping passengers return to their seats and passengers who did not have time to fasten their seat belts up to the ceiling of the cabin.”
The A330 landed safely on Runway 19 at Beijing Capital International Airport at 5:18 p.m. local time. The cause of the turbulence is still under investigation.
