A Boeing 767 aircraft was forced to turn around on its way to Europe after only 1 hour in the air.
United Airlines flight UA120 departed Newark Airport Terminal C, gate C120 one hour behind schedule at 20:20 EST on Friday, December 26 2025 for a 7-hour flight to Barcelona, Spain.
The Boeing 767-400ER (registered N66056) climbed our of runway 4L to 29,000 feet altitude over Connecticut but turned over when it started to fly over The Atlantic, less than one hour after takeoff.
The crew required a return due to a mechanical issue but the weather didn’t permit it as the EWR airport was dealing with snow and low visibility.
The airline decided to divert the flight to Washington Dulles International Airport as United has a maintenance department. The Boeing aircraft landed on runway 19L 2 hours and 4 minutes after departure then taxied to Concourse D.
Passengers disembarked and the plane is currently under maintenance inspection.
