Qantas flight from Sydney to Johannesburg turned around and diverted to Melbourne.
Qantas flight QF63 departed Sydney on time at 09:30 AEDT Friday, December 5 2025 for a 14-hour flight to Johannesburg.
The Airbus A380-800 (registration VH-OQL) took off from runway 34L and climbed to 34,000 feet and flew during 3 hours before the crew decided to turn around between Australia and Antartica.
The aircraft flew during another 2 hours towards Melbourne where it landed on runway 34 due to a medical situation on board.
The passenger has been off boarded to awaiting ambulance but the crew was out of hour duty. The aircraft had to be refueled but was scheduled to leave MEL airport the next day at 11:30.
