A KLM flight bound for Barcelona was forced to return to Amsterdam Schiphol Airport on Wednesday, shortly after departure.
Amsterdam, September 3, 2025 — The KLM Royal Dutch Airlines flight, operating as KL1511, had taken off for its scheduled service to Spain when the crew decided to turn back and land at Schiphol. The aircraft landed safely, and emergency services were placed on standby as a precaution.
The Boeing 737-800, with registration PH-HSD, departed Amsterdam late at 10:15 CEST and climbed to 34,000 feet then turned around over Belgium.
It landed back in Amsterdam Airport on runway 18C only about one hour after takeoff.
KLM has not yet disclosed the exact cause of the return, but initial reports suggest a technical issue may have prompted the decision. Passengers are expected to be rebooked on alternative flights to Barcelona later in the day.
Flight KL1511 is a regular service connecting Amsterdam with Barcelona, one of KLM’s busiest European routes.
