A flight to Abu Dhabi returned to Canada more than 7 hours after takeoff.
Etihad Airways flight EY22 departed Toronto, Canada Monday, July 14 2025 for a 12-hour flight to to Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.
While cruising at 35,000 feet and leaving Canadian’s coast, a medical situation forced the crew to plan a diversion but not all airports could welcome an Airbus A380. Pilots decided to turn around to fly back to Toronto, more than 3 hours into the flight.
The aircraft (registration A6-APG) landed back on runway 23 in Toronto after circling during 30 minutes to dump fuel in order to reduce weight for a safe landing.
Passengers complained about the lack of information on board and the waiting to be towed to a gate after the emergency landing. The flight was canceled.
